About Colombia Flowers

A celebration of the extraordinary biodiversity that makes Colombia the world's garden.

Our Mission

Colombia Flowers is a photographic and educational project dedicated to documenting and sharing the extraordinary floral diversity of Colombia — the world's second most biodiverse nation and its second-largest flower exporter.

Every photograph on this site was taken in and around Medellín, Colombia — the City of Eternal Spring — where the unique combination of equatorial latitude, Andean altitude, and year-round temperate climate creates one of the planet's most spectacular natural gardens.

Why Colombia?

Colombia is home to more than 1,400 flower varieties across 60+ species. The country's flower industry supports over 200,000 families and exports to 89 countries worldwide. From the delicate orchid (Colombia's national flower) to the dramatic Heliconia, from the classic rose to the ethereal Silk Tree — the diversity is staggering.

The Sabana de Bogotá and the hills surrounding Medellín provide ideal conditions: volcanic soil, consistent 12-hour days, abundant spring water, and temperatures that rarely fluctuate. These natural advantages produce flowers with longer stems, richer colors, and greater longevity than those grown virtually anywhere else on Earth.

The City of Eternal Spring

Medellín sits at approximately 1,500 meters in the Valle de Aburrá, enjoying average temperatures between 22–28°C year-round. This "eternal spring" climate means that many tropical and subtropical species bloom continuously, creating a living tapestry of color that changes block by block, season by season.

Walking the streets of Medellín is a botanical experience: Bougainvillea cascades from rooftops, Lantana blankets hillsides in sunset gradients, Silk Trees erupt in clouds of pink filaments, and Blue Ginger hides in shaded gardens. Every neighborhood has its own character, its own palette.

Looking Ahead

This collection is just the beginning. We continue to document new species, explore new regions, and share the stories behind Colombia's extraordinary flowers with the world.
